Dupe rankings are usually written by dupe enthusiasts. We tried something different: five women who have worn Coco Mademoiselle for years, four budget alternatives, no labels.
The winner was a €22 oriental-fresh that three of five panellists initially mistook for their own fragrance in the opening. "That's mine. Wait — is it?" is the highest praise a dupe can earn.
The surprise: the most expensive alternative (€45) ranked last. Price predicted nothing; the cheapest bottle took second place.
The consensus: every dupe fell apart in the far drydown, where Chanel's patchouli does something none of the clones manage. Panel verdict: wear the dupe Monday to Friday, keep the Chanel for moments when the last three hours matter.
